Online Training

Supporting children and young people in out-of-home care to develop and maintain connections to their families and cultures is a priority. Children and young people in care can benefit from enduring supportive relationships over their lifetime. Yet, sustaining these important relationships can be challenging. The Fostering Lifelong Connections project used participatory action research to develop, trial and embed relationship-building practices to encourage positive interactions between children’s birth and carer families. Learning from casework practitioners, care experienced adults, parents and carers, the project aimed to identify practices that could support positive family time experiences and family relationships.

Each module describes a practice that was trialled by caseworkers during the action research, discusses key practice learnings and offers resources that were co-designed with experts-by- experience and experts-by-profession. Reflective questions and activities are provided to help embed learnings and develop skills.
